Enzyme Therapy: The Foundation

KEYNOTE PRESENTATION
Scientific and Clinical Foundation of Supplemental Enzymes
Presented by M. Mamadou, Ph.D.
The use of supplemental enzymes has often been the subject of debate as to its effectiveness and importance. Although enzyme biochemistry has been studied since the 1930’s, the role of enzymes in supplementation and therapy has not been widespread or well understood. In this presentation Dr. Mamadou will be discussing special considerations on the production of enzymes, the pharmacology and pharmacokinetics of supplemental enzymes, and further and updated scientific and clinical foundation of their applications and benefits.
Dr. Mamadou is a distinguished member of the scientific advisory board for Transformation Enzyme Corporation as well as Phytomedic Labs. His Ph.D. degree is in Cell Biology and Protein Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Mamadou has many years of experience in teaching, research and consulting activities in the areas of protein chemistry, enzymology (purification, characterization, assays), cell and molecular biology, regulation of gene expression, food sciences and nutrition, environmental health, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, dietary supplements (enzymes, antioxidants, vitamins, neurotransmitters, hormones, herbal extracts) and nutritional genomics. He is an invaluable member of our community.
Whether you are new to enzymes or simply just need a good refresher and reminder of why enzymes should be a part of everyone’s path to wellness, Dr. Mamadou will address some key characteristics of supplemental enzymes and provide further and updated scientific and clinical foundation of their applications and benefits. You will learn how and when to use enzyme-based dietary supplements for wellness and health as well as specific product rationales, dosages, and recommendation guidelines.

Where Do You Go When No One Believes You’re Really Sick?
Presented by Rolf Habersang, MD
“I am just not right...” “I have been evaluated by many specialist physicians, and as I am ‘fine,’ received a referral to a psychiatrist...” This scenario is unfortunately all too common. This is why many seek functional and/or integrative practitioners. They are looking for answers that conventional medicine won’t or can’t address. So what can we do? In this presentation, Dr. Rolf Habersang will dissect the pieces of the puzzle and then explain ways to restore health in your most challenging patients.

Becoming Human: Tracing Digestive Dysfunction from Embryo through Early Childhood
Presented by Amy Rawls, MS, RD, LD
There is a growing awareness of worsening and more complicated digestive challenges. We are in a midst of epidemic proportions of allergies, asthma, ADHD, food sensitivities, diabetes, hormonal imbalance amongst those young and old. Why are we suffering from these conditions? In order to understand how we got here, we must first understand and grasp human development from the very beginning. In this discussion Amy Rawls, MS, RD, LD, will discuss the connection between nutrition and digestive development and why the need for supplemental enzymes has never been greater.

Clinical Spotlight: Pediatric Health

Protecting Our Future through Genetic Testing
Presented by Mike Clark MBA, JD, PhD
Our culture is facing epidemics of obesity, diabetes, autism, ADHD, and even chronic diseases. We are being prescribed drugs in ever increasing numbers. Is this the future? What can we do about it? One answer is to know our genetic health profile so we can identify risk factors for these and other conditions. Isn’t it time to take the guesswork out of our treatment and prevention protocols? Dr. Mike Clark will discuss how this can be done with the appropriate testing of genes and the personalized treatment through Nutrigenomic testing.

From Eczema to Asthma, Anxiety, and More: A Step by Step Approach to Many Pediatric Illnesses (and Where Enzymes Fit)
Presented by Sheila Kilbane, MD, with Deborah Allen, RPh
Parents crave the information to help them understand their child’s health at a much deeper level. They no longer accept as “normal” that a 4-month-old baby should be placed on an antacid, that a 3-year-old girl would be going on her second year of taking a daily laxative, and that a 7-year-old boy with Down syndrome would be getting his sixth set of ear tubes. As practitioners it is important that we stop thinking linearly and learn how to read the signs, assess the signals, and uncover the root causes of the most common chronic health conditions, including eczema, acid reflux, recurrent ear infections, stomach pain, constipation, and more. It takes a great deal to design a program that shares the knowledge of what inflammation looks like in kids and how to take the steps necessary to decrease it. Fortunately, Dr Kilbane and her team have created a health roadmap to success using knowledge, research, and clinical experience from the best of traditional and integrative medicine.

In this co-presentation, Dr. Sheila Kilbane and Deborah Allen, RPh, will teach you where to begin restoring cellular health in the pediatric population, the commonly overlooked triggers of inflammation including glyphosate and mold, testing to get to the root of immune and cellular dysfunction, why proper gut motility and gall bladder dysfunction are a crucial step, how to layer in supplements for optimal effectiveness, and a long term maintenance plan for gut motility and cellular integrity.

Helping Children with Autism
Presented by Pia Habersang, EdD, CNS, APRN
Autism Spectrum is not a brain disorder, but rather a disorder that affects the brain due to epigenetic triggers. Recognizing the connection between diet, gut, the immune system, and behavior will make it possible for health care providers to guide parents on how to help their children with autism reach their potential. In this presentation, Dr. Pia Habersang will explain how she applies the knowledge of early childhood development as well as developmental milestones throughout adolescence into primary care.

Putting Enzymes into Practice

Gut-Brain Connection in Athletic Performance
Presented by Caroline Carpenter, DC
Athletes often find themselves juggling fad diets, tips, and tricks that promise weight loss, muscle gain, and increased athletic performance. A serious athlete will eat whatever his or her coach outlines based on macro-nutrient requirements with little focus placed on nutrient density and absorption. But sometimes the foods that are prescribed to drive performance and serve as the basis for health will cause disease and worsen inflammation if not properly absorbed and assimilated. Optimal performance, injury prevention, and proper recovery are all benefits of following the proper enzyme protocol. Dr. Caroline Carpenter will share how she improves efficiency in overall performance and recovery in the various athletes she sees in her own practice through case studies showing how enzyme therapy impacts performance and the level of health necessary to compete at a high level.

Energy Healing: A Different Approach to Optimal Health
Presented by Abby Matzke, PhD
The body’s electrical system goes highly ignored by mainstream approaches to health and wellness. Body energy flow is critical to optimal functioning. Life is not just chemical—without the electricity of the body running properly, there is no life. Assessment of the body’s electricity flow gives insight into what needs to be done to correct complaints. In this presentation, Dr. Abby Matzke will explain how she combines body energy reading technology and enzymes to balance the natural communication pathways of the body. Get insight from a Natural Medicine and Bioenergetics Practitioner on what blocked energy looks like, how enzymes help clean up energy flow, ways to obtain fastest results with clients, and how bioenergetic practitioners can improve results faster.

DiSC: Increase Compliance and Patient Outcomes with Improved Patient Communication
Presented by Ted Hair
Effective doctor-patient communication is a central clinical function in building a therapeutic doctor-patient relationship, which is the heart and art of medicine. This is important in the delivery of high quality health care. Much patient dissatisfaction and many complaints are due to breakdown in the doctor-patient relationship. However, many doctors tend to overestimate their ability in communication. DiSC is an invaluable behavior profiling system that teaches users how to identify—and use to their advantage—the predictable aspects of communication. Based on the research of Dr. William Moulton Marston, DiSC is the most widely used behavior profiling tool of its kind, supported by decades of research and validation.
In this discussion, Ted Hair, owner of ActionCOACH SE business coaching and consulting, will be discussing how DISC utilization offers the greatest accuracy for a range of dynamic business applications such as:
